Introduction-Kathryn Daugherty Original post: Mon 1/18/2021 at 10:07 AM

Hi Class,

My name is Kathryn Daugherty. I live in Lake Saint Louis, MO and have lived in the St. Louis area my whole life. I have two grown sons that are the love of my life and I love spending time when my work schedule allows, not as much travel this year with everything going on. In my spare time I like to work in the yard and around my house, so I am addicted to YouTube how to videos. We are big football fans so this is our favorite time of the year, Kansas City Chiefs fans.  I am a returning student majoring in Business Management, I earned an associate’s degree from Mineral Area College twenty seven years ago. I have to say it has been challenging going back to school after all this time. I am a material control manager at an HVAC manufacturing company where I have worked for the past 22 years. I need to finish my degree in order to advance any further in my career with the company, the next step would be a director. I chose business management because management has been the part of my career that has been the most rewarding. I have enjoyed learning the different aspects of business so far and look forward to learning more about fraud and the legal aspects of business.

Hi Kathryn!

You seem to have alot going on but first GO CHIEFS!  I am a huge Chiefs fan as well!  I like how you are continuing your education so that you can advance in the company you work for.  I am doing the same but I am working towards the Cost Accountant position.  I work for MOTUS in Warrensburg and started as the material purchaser but worked my way into finance where I am currently the accounting specialist but in order to have the Cost Accountant title I need to finish up by Accounting degree.  I hope to finish by December this year.  I am ready for a break from school and to feel settled in my career path.  I wish you the best of luck during these next 8 weeks!

Hi Kathryn. Sorry I'm not a sports fan but we do have our majors in common. I understand the difficulties in returning to school after all these years. Before obtaining my associates degree in 2018, the last time I was in college was 1987. It is awesome that you are able to advance in the company you work for; education helps a lot in that area. I think that your experience is very valuable too. Good luck with your career goals.
