A fraud investigation often leads to a loss of an employee, usually by someone tipping off an employee about who committed the crime. Records and other proof can be adjusted to make believe that the fault or crime here is put on someone else's shoulders when it's not. In most if not all situations there should be some type of legal trouble and also the person committing the act should be terminated from the position they hold. But within the investigation process anybody could be liable so you should go in with the thought of "Is this company being ethical and doing good buisness?" Or participating in bad transactions that give them good rep but not so good reports when you dig deeper. Personally I think all fraud could lead to major issues so wither it's big minor or big shouldn't matter. It should be investigated to prevent future damages to the people who are effected by it.
