I am choosing to research and write about the Lehman Brothers scandal and collapse.  I was drawn to this topic due to the fact that it was the largest recorded bankruptcy filing in U.S. history so automatically that sounds interesting.  Secondly, I remember learning about sub-prime mortgages in my Investment Analysis class as well as from the movie "The Big Short" which I found extremely interesting.  I plan to research the company's beginnings, what led to their fall, and the fallout of their collapse.  The movie focused more on the hedge funds and investors that foresaw the collapse, I'm very interested to find out more about the big banks who simply overlooked it.
