It happens to the best of us. Getting nervous about a first date can happen for a variety of reasons, but that is a story for another day. The question is what to do about it? Loosen yourself up by trying some of these techniques so you can relax and enjoy the date.
Phone A Friend. Pick a friend that you consistently feel good around and give them a call a few minutes before the date. This does not necessarily mean your best friend. It is more important that it is someone that can loosen you up and get you in the right state of mind. Do not tell them about the date or why you are calling, but rather just shoot the breeze like you normally would and soak in the good vibes. After the call, you will be smiling, feeling comfortable, and ready to have a good time.
One other variation of this idea is to call someone you have not talked to in a while, or even make business calls. Forcing yourself to deal with social situations outside your normal comfort zone will get you confident thinking on your feet and interacting with new people.
Tell Your Date. Rather than leaving your nerves in the background as a lingering issue nagging you all night, be direct and tell your date in a light hearted way. It is a charming icebreaker and establishes a level of openness right off the bat. Getting it out in the open will take the air out of your anxiety and not make it feel so huge so you can put it to rest and move on with the date.
Breathe Deep. There is a reason you hear about this one all the time. It works. Take a large breath into your chest through your nose, briefly hold it, and slowly exhale through your mouth. As you let the air out, you will feel your mind
